New & Improved Tools with Windows 7
Paint & WordPad
Both Paint and WordPad in Windows 7 have a more modern interface. With the addition of the Scenic Ribbon, major features and capabilities are more easily accessible.
The Calculator now has a more modern appearance and more capabilities. It now has four different modes:
In addition to the new modes, there are four calculation options:
- Basic (just the calculator)
- Unit conversion
- Date calculation and
Unit conversion translates Celsius to Fahrenheit, kilometers to miles, grams to ounces, and more.
Date calculation quickly calculates the difference between two dates and/or adding and subtracting days to a specified date.
Worksheets/Templates can be used to compute everyday tasks like fuel economy and auto lease payments.
Snipping Tool is a screen capture tool for taking screenshots of portions of your screen (snips) or of the entire desktop.
The Snipping Tool can be found by:
- Going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Snipping Tool
- Typing “Snipping Tool” in the Search box.
There are four options for screen capture:
- Free-form Snip
- Rectangular Snip
- Window Snip
- Full-screen Snip
Once you are finished snipping, you can annotate with the pen and highlighter tools, or erase portions. The images can be then emailed or saved as image files (.png, .gif, .jpeg).
Sticky Notes are like Post-It notes for your desktop.
Open Sticky Notes by:
- Going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Sticky Notes
- Typing “Sticky Notes” in the Search box.
After you have added a sticky note, you can type your note in the space provided. When you are finished typing, just click outside of the note. Notes can be edited, resized, and the background color can be changed. Right-click on the note to access Sticky Note options.
- To add a note, click the + in the top left corner.
- To delete a note, click the X in the top right corner.
