Google Groups will replace the mailman mailing list on February 18, 2014
Google provides distribution list capability through Google Groups. Google Groups for Business will replace our current Mailman mailing list on February 18, 2014. IT Services is creating the Google Groups to replace the current mailman mailing list accounts and will be in contact with those mailing list owners to provide training material and assistance.
The employee mailing list email address has been changed to email@example.com. Messages sent to this mailing list are moderated by IT Services and only Armstrong related email messages should be sent to this address.
The student mailing list email address has been changed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Messages sent to this mailing list are moderated by IT Services and only important Armstrong related email messages should be sent to this group address. Biweekly newsletters, What's going on Armstrong and Important Announcements, are the primary electronic way to communicate campus information to students. Representatives from each of the departments should have access to submit an announcement for the student newsletter through Port of Armstrong.
Building A Better U Java Update and Banner INB Java Issues
This announcement is for users who access Banner INB, ADP Approving Managers, and/or users accessing a web-based application that requires previous versions of Java.
Please be advised that updating Java in order to access Building A Better U will cause access issues in applications requiring previous Java versions, such as Banner INB and the Approving Managers module of ADP. If you access either of these applications, please delay accessing Building A Better U for a few days as IT Services works with Human Resources to resolve this issue.
Google Issues Resolved
Earlier this afternoon, Google reported issues with Google services, including Gmail. Google has reported that they have resolved the issue and Google services are back up and running.

Gmail Login Update
Google has revised the login page for Gmail resources. Because of this change, employees will now be required to type out their full email address (including "@armstrong.edu") to log into their Armstrong Gmail account. Below is a screen shot of the new landing page.
Please note there are two ways for employees to access their Armstrong Gmail account; go directly to Gmail.com or through the login Armstrong page.
IT Services Advisement: Strong Passwords
In the past few months, there has been a surge of online hacking and phishing schemes. IT Services would like to take a moment to address account security and encourage members of our campus community to ensure they have strong passwords.
Weak passwords are passwords that are easily guessed by unauthorized users. Examples include "1234", "password", "password1234", etc. Also, passwords that match the mailbox username are weak. A weak password may enable unauthorized access to email messages or it may enable an unauthorized user to send spam from the compromised account.
Strong passwords are case-sensitive and contain at least eight (8) characters including letters, numbers and symbols. Change your passwords regularly. Store your passwords in a secure location and do not share them with others.
IT Services response to compromised Armstrong accounts. If suspicious account activity is brought to IT Services' attention, we will investigate the account, determine if any actions are necessary, and work with the user to reconcile the account. Internet Connectivity Update
Internet connectivity on-campus was down for about thirty minutes this morning due to an off campus fiber cut that affected our PeachNet fiber. On-campus and off-campus services have been restored.
