ITS Network Use Policy

Rationale
The purpose of this policy is to help keep the University’s network resources secure and operational.
Procedure Reference
All users of the University’s network resources must be authorized to use those resources.
All users must not knowingly endanger the security or the use of any Armstrong network resource, or willfully interfere with others' authorized network usage.
No one shall install a network router, network switch, repeater, modem, wireless device other than a desktop, laptop or other portable computers to the Armstrong’s network infrastructure without the consent of the Chief Information Officer. All network infrastructure changes must be approved and coordinated by the ITS department. Access to all network closets and related cabling equipment is strictly limited to ITS employees. All employees who require access to network closets must first contact ITS for access.
No one shall install a network server or configure their desktop computer as a network server without the consent of the Chief Information Officer. This includes configuring their computer for file sharing, web hosting, client server software, or other network related services.
No one shall use Armstrong's network resources or services to attempt unauthorized use, nor to interfere with others' legitimate use, of any network facility or operation.
No one without specific authorization from the Chief Information Officer shall use any University network resource or service for non-University business.
No one shall create, install or knowingly distribute a computer virus or other surreptitiously destructive program on any Armstrong network resource, regardless of whether any demonstrable harm results without the consent of the Chief Information Officer.
