Robert P. Howard
Chief Information Officer
Robert has spent most of his 20-year career as a change agent helping organizations and individuals increase success, realize opportunities, and minimize risks associated with technology and environment changes in teaching, research, and business operations. He knows that enrollment and external funding are critical to higher education and how IT is vital to support these activities.
He has a MS in leadership & organizational change (OC) which helps him put proven, scientific principles of managing OC to practice within large, complex organizations, specifically managing the disruptive forces of technology. Robert is a leader who balances stability and innovation across the technology lifecycle as it is applied to challenges in higher education. He believes the value of IT is in increasing competitive advantage and helping others reach their full potential. By focusing on the people side of change, he has been able to achieve better outcomes for organizations and a much more satisfied constituency.
His greatest strengths are communicating, planning and executing strategies, reducing cost and complexity, and guiding people through change. He also has experience in improving existing services, making business models sustainable, and developing high performing teams. He is a team player who can lead & get things done by involvement and inclusion, not only direct line of authority.
He is also a volunteer firefighter and adjunct faculty at Miami U, teaching courses on topics including mobile marketing and BI; organizational behavior focused game mechanics; and innovation & disruptive thinking. He teaches at the graduate level regarding sentiment analysis in social media networks for marketing ROI.
His personal mission in life is to create a healthy environment where others can reach their full potential to excel at life & contribute positively to humanity. To maintain sanity, he loves learning at least two new things a year & stretching out of his comfort zones.
