Welcome to the New AASU Website!
(August 7, 2009) We are excited to let you know about all the features of the new site and how it came to be. The site is being redesigned in phases to improve navigation, give the site more contemporary and consistent design and deliver a stronger message to our primary audience: prospective students. The site also has sections for all of our "friends and family" who visit the site: alumni, current students, faculty and staff, visitors and neighbors, and parents of prospective students.
The design is the result of a great team effort. Before design began, we surveyed faculty, staff, current and prospective students to determine what features they felt were important to a new site. A web task force consisting of representatives from marketing, CIS (Computer & Information Services), faculty, staff, enrollment services and student affairs have been guiding the design and development process and will continue to oversee the site throughout the transition.
One of the most visually dramatic features of the new home page is the rotating "spotlights" section where we can showcase many aspects of AASU. Themes in this section will include:
:: Major Events
:: Campus Growth
:: Research & Teaching
:: Accomplishments that Impact Our Community
With the launch of the new design comes a new look and feel that will be applied throughout all areas of the website. This design has established colors, fonts and navigation that allow for users to easily move through the site. To assist with this change, the university will be releasing approved web templates that will be applied as colleges and departments transition to the new site. Departments will have the opportunity to select from a variety of templates and features to give their site its unique perspective within the context of the new site design.
One of the most popular features of the new site is sure to be the fact that colleges and departments will be able to manage and update the text sections of their site without having to go through CIS.
Continued Transition and TimingThe first phase of the site includes all the pages that open from the primary site navigation bar across the top of the homepage. Following in the second phase, which will take place through the fall, will be other sections relating to student admission and services including housing, student life and financial aid, to name a few. The core site of our four colleges will be transitioned throughout phase two and three, with remaining departments being moved during phase three.
CIS and marketing will schedule several open sessions after classes start this fall to discuss the changes being made to the university's core site and how to incorporate the new templates into your site.
