President Bleicken’s Inauguration is September 17
(September 13, 2010) Linda M. Bleicken will be officially inaugurated as Armstrong Atlantic State University’s seventh president on Friday, September 17, during a formal ceremony in the Armstrong Fine Arts Auditorium. The date has a special significance for the institution, as it marked the first day of classes at the historic Armstrong House in 1935.
Events commemorating President Bleicken’s inauguration and Armstrong’s 75th anniversary in 2010 will span three days, including a special alumni reception on Thursday, September 16 and a student-driven Day of Service on Saturday, September 18. The inauguration ceremony, beginning at 2 p.m., will feature distinguished speakers and guests, including Erroll B. Davis Jr., chancellor of the University System of Georgia, dignitaries representing the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and leaders from the most prestigious universities in the region.
The Armstrong Alumni Association will host a special “75th Notables Reception” on Thursday to honor prominent alumni from around the country.
The first annual Armstrong Day of Service, “Treasure Savannah,” on Saturday, September 18 will involve several hundred students, faculty and staff providing service at various nonprofit organizations across Savannah. The event marks the beginning of an annual day of service organized by the Initiative for Civic Engagement established on campus in 2009 and the Office of Student Affairs.
