James Anderson Reappointed to the Greater Savannah International Alliance
(Jan. 28, 2014) — Dr. James N. Anderson, assistant to the vice president and director of international education at Armstrong Atlantic State University, has been reappointed as chairman for a three-year term on the Greater Savannah International Alliance (GSIA) by Savannah Mayor Edna Branch Jackson and the Savannah City Council.
“My work leading that group will continue to have benefit for Armstrong and our enhanced involvement with the city’s international efforts,” said Anderson.
Anderson was first appointed for a three-year term in 2010. In October of 2013, he was elected to serve as the 2014 GSIA chair. As chair, Anderson has been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the Savannah World Trade Center.
As the director of international education at Armstrong, Anderson oversees all international programs including developing study abroad programs, cultivating partnerships with universities around the world, working with international students and supporting the globalization of the university curriculum. Since 2001, Anderson has worked with faculty to increase the study abroad enrollment at Armstrong from 16 students to more than 140 students each year. His office established Armstrong’s first in-house semester abroad program and enrolled the university in the International Student Exchange Program for semester abroad exchanges.
Through his leadership, Armstrong has established new study abroad programs in 21 different countries and multiple international exchanges and partnerships including with Jiujiang University and Nanchang University in China, Martin Luther University in Germany, Linnaeus University in Sweden, the University of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic, the University of La Serena in Chile, the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, and the Catholic University of Salta in Argentina.
In 1992, Anderson chaired a committee that secured a Sister-Cities International Relationship between the City of Savannah and the Republic of Georgia City of Batumi.
