Celebrate Armstrong Day Is October 20
(October 18, 2010) Armstrong Atlantic State University faculty, staff, students, alumni and guests will mark the 15th annual Celebrate Armstrong Day with live music, home-cooked food and games on Wednesday, October 20, from noon to 6 p.m. on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street. The event is free and the public is invited.
Leopold’s Ice Cream will be on campus offering its new flavor, Pirates’ Treasure, created in honor of Armstrong’s 75th anniversary.
The Armstrong cheerleaders and dance team will kickoff the festivities at noon, followed by a performance by the Armstrong Jazz Combo at 12:15 p.m. Other performers include the Gospel Choir Anointed Voices at 2 p.m. and Melanie Mirande on acoustic guitar at 2:30 p.m.
The Student Government Association will sponsor a hot dog eating contest starting at 1:30 p.m. Back this year are other crowd favorites such as musical chairs and a balloon toss competition. In all, more than 70 booths will offer a variety of food, baked goods and games.
