Armstrong Wins Four Best of Savannah Honors
(May 29, 2013) – Readers of Connect Savannah, the city’s leading alternative weekly publication, recently voted Armstrong the top winner in four “Best of Savannah” categories. The winners were announced in the May 22 issue and can be viewed online at http://www.connectsavannah.com .
Armstrong soccer coach Eric Faulconer was named Best College Coach, recognizing his leadership and guidance in developing a strong women’s soccer program.
“The AASU women's soccer coach just completed his ninth season with the Pirates, leading his team of lightning fast ladies to the NCAA Southeast Region title for a second straight year and this year's NCAA Championship quarterfinals,” Connect Savannah reports.
The Armstrong women’s soccer team won Best Local College Sports Team for the second consecutive year. The team has earned acclaim for its domination on the field.
“It was a banner season for these kickin' athletes: 19-2-2,” the article notes. “Roster standouts include senior forward Morgan Mitchell, the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, and senior defender Emily Cattanach; both earned NSCAA Scholar All-America honors.”
In addition, Armstrong English instructor Bill Dawers was honored as Best Local Columnist and Best Blogger. A popular local writer, Dawers reports on local business, arts and entertainment news in his Savannah Morning News “City Talk” column and shares his observations about Georgia’s First City in his Savannah Unplugged blog. Connect Savannah described Dawers, a repeat winner, as the “King of All Local Media.”
