Armstrong to Host TechFest 2014 on April 11


(April 9, 2014) Armstrong’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), and the Web Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (WebBSIT) will join forces to present TechFest 2014 on Friday, April 11 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Center. This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested.

TechFest 2014 is an exciting way to establish a connection between talented computer science and information technology students and local businesses. The ultimate goal is to build an even stronger local technology community.

Highlights of TechFest 2014 include TAG president and CEO Ton Mantella presenting key findings from the “2014 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report” at 12:30 p.m., a poster and demonstration session at 1 p.m. and business information sessions at 2:30 p.m.

TECHFEST 2014 SCHEDULE

12 p.m.  - Lunch and Welcome

Lunch will be served from noon until 1 p.m., and complimentary TechFest t-shirts will be given to those in attendance (while supplies last).

12:30 p.m. - Key Findings of the 2014 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report Tino Mantella, President and CEO of TAG

The formal event will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a presentation of Key Findings of the 2014 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report by Tino Mantella, President and CEO of TAG.

1 p.m. - Posters and Demonstrations Session

TechFest will be delivered in two parts. During the first half of the event, students will present projects in the form of posters or demonstrations or both. This is a great opportunity for the business community to see firsthand how Armstrong’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology is developing talent for the local workforce.

2:30 p.m. - Business Information Sessions

During the second half of TechFest, leaders from local tech companies will meet with students in 15-minute sessions. Companies are encouraged to include career advice and recruitment efforts. The primary objective is to educate students about the types of businesses and potential opportunities available in the immediate area.

3:45 p.m. - Awards, Closing Remarks and Refreshments

Cash awards will be presented to first, second and third place participants in the posters and demonstrations session. Refreshments will be served at 4 p.m.
