Armstrong Soccer Retires Kristin Burton’s Jersey
(October 16, 2010) The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's soccer program will retire four-time All-America and three-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Kristin Burton's number 17 jersey in a pre-match ceremony Saturday, October 16, at 12:50 p.m., prior to the No. 7-ranked AASU Pirates hosting No. 25 North Georgia at the Armstrong Soccer Field.
Burton will be the first Armstrong women's soccer player to have her jersey retired. In her four-year career at Armstrong, Burton scored 94 goals, the seventh-most goals scored in NCAA Division II history. She also was a 14-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honoree, a conference record regardless of sport, as well as a three-time ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee.
Saturday's match is also a part of the Peach Belt Conference's "Green Week" initiative. Fans are encouraged to bring aluminum cans and can tops to the match – members of the AASU Student-Athlete Advisory Council will collect the items. The initiative will benefit the Ronald McDonald House and Habitat for Humanity.
