Armstrong Professor is Editor of World History Book Series
(October 21, 2011) Allison Scardino Belzer, Armstrong Atlantic State University assistant professor of history, is the new editor of the recently published textbook Documents in World History (Pearson, 2011), volumes 1 and 2. The well-established series, now in its sixth edition, presents a compilation of documents that are primary sources written at the time when historical events unfolded.
Belzer joins co-editors Peter N. Stearns, Stephen S. Gosch and Erwin P. Grieshaber for this newest edition of Documents in World History. The text highlights political, social, cultural and economic issues in world history. Belzer conducted the work for the latest edition over the course of 2010, and it included revising and updating the text to include more than a quarter of new documents. The series continues to retain a global emphasis and the latest edition has expanded attention to women and world religions.
A professor at Armstrong since 2003, Belzer is also the author of Women and the Great War: Femininity Under Fire in Italy (Palgrave McMillan, 2010). Her first book, it analyzes women’s participation in World War I and the effect that role had on them. Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries had this to say about the book: “Divided into three parts devoted respectively to femininity at home, in the war zone, and in the postwar era, this excellent study offers extremely valuable insights on gender role changes in Italy between the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century up to the Fascist era. Belzer (Armstrong Atlantic State Univ.) magisterially demonstrates how WWI represents the turning point in women's role change within Italian society.”
Belzer teaches courses in the areas of modern Italy, modern Britain, Renaissance Europe, World War I and European intellectual and cultural history. She holds a Ph.D. in history from Emory University and a bachelor’s in history and Italian from Vassar College.
