Armstrong Offers a Wide Range of Fall Arts Events
(Aug. 21, 2013) Armstrong’s Department of Art, Music and Theatre is pleased to present a full line-up of fall arts events, from creative art exhibits to ambitious live theater performances. Visit the Art, Music and Theatre fine arts calendar to view the complete schedule.
“We’re offering a wide variety of options this fall,” said Mario Incorvaia, arts marketing director and auditorium manager at Armstrong. “We take our role in the arts community seriously and look forward to delivering an outstanding range of arts experiences.”
Fall highlights include “Dreams of Anne Frank,” a special Masquers Black Box Theater Production that will bring this dramatic story to life at the Jenkins Hall Black Box Theatre September 19-22. The winner of the Time Out Award for Best Children's Production during its London premiere, this imaginative play de-mystifies and humanizes Anne Frank's story of tremendous bravery.
Also in September, the International Art Exhibition will open at the Fine Arts Gallery September 6-26, featuring original art inspired by study abroad experiences in Argentina. This multi-media exhibit includes work created by Armstrong students and faculty as well as Argentinean host artists. A special reception will be held on September 20.
In November, Armstrong and Savannah State University will join forces to present “The Amen Corner,” a comic drama in three acts by James Baldwin. This landmark production will take center stage at the Jenkins Black Box Theater November 7-17, telling the story of self-anointed Harlem preacher Margaret Alexander, who is about to see her world crumble around her and test her own faith.
Music-lovers will want to attend Savannah Winds: A New Season on November 19 at the Fine Arts Auditorium. This concert kicks-off the 2013-2014 season and features plenty of great music to usher in the holiday season.
“We try to make our events as accessible as possible to a broad section of the community in Savannah,” said Incorvaia. “We invite everyone to experience the best of the arts at Armstrong this fall.”
