Armstrong Launches New Online M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction

(April 24, 2014) — Armstrong Atlantic State University recently launched an online M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, which is the university’s first graduate-level teaching degree available entirely online.

“For generations, Armstrong has had an impressive legacy of creating exceptional teachers,” said Dr. Patricia Wachholz, dean of Armstrong’s College of Education. “We’re thrilled to offer a 100 percent online master’s degree program for educators interested in expanding their knowledge and advancing their career in the classroom and beyond.”

The online program provides teachers with the knowledge, information and skills to develop into curriculum leaders. The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for individuals who hold T-4 certification or eligibility for certification in any field (or equivalent certification from another state) and wish to earn a graduate degree by doing advanced work in their teaching field.

The online master’s degree program prepares educators to teach, plan and create courses for schools and education programs. Students perform intensive study in content pedagogy, curriculum and instructional development, implementation and assessment. In the program, teachers study various factors influencing curriculum and pedagogy, learning theories, methodologies and diverse learning needs. They also learn to interpret assessment data and to develop effective communication skills for collaborating with parents, colleagues and professionals.

The M.Ed. program in Curriculum and Instruction is designed to increase the depth and breadth of classroom teachers’ knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. Educational professionals who complete this program will be prepared to have a positive impact on every student’s learning and will have the knowledge and skills to advocate for and contribute to improvements in education.

Educators who successfully complete the program and meet all standards will be eligible to advance in the field of Curriculum and Instruction through application for the Georgia P-12 Service (S) Certificate in Curriculum and Instruction.

“We invite teachers across Georgia to learn more about Armstrong’s new online M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction,” said Wachholz. “It’s an amazing opportunity for educators who are interested in taking their teaching career to the next level.”
