Armstrong Honors Campus Leaders
(April 12, 2013) Continuing a cherished spring tradition, Armstrong has announced the 2013 faculty and staff Leadership Awards. The annual awards recognize the work and dedication of faculty and staff to students and the university. The faculty awards also emphasize faculty members’ teaching, research, and service to the university across all academic disciplines.
The 2013 Armstrong Leadership Awards
Alumni Award for Distinguished Faculty Service to the Academic Discipline
Ray Tyler-Hashemi, professor of computer science
The Distinguished Faculty Service to the Academic Discipline Award is presented to a faculty member who contributes significantly to his or her discipline.
Award for Distinguished Faculty Service to the Community
Cherie McCann, instructor of nursing
The Distinguished Faculty Service to the Community Award is given to a faculty member who has shown outstanding service to the local or larger community.
Award for Distinguished Faculty Service to the University
Anne Thompson, department head/director and associate professor, Program in Physical Therapy
The Distinguished Faculty Service to the University Award is presented to a faculty member who has shown outstanding service to the university and specifically recognizes the use of the faculty member’s expertise in ways that benefit the general welfare and greater good of the Armstrong campus.
Award for Distinguished Service by a Part-Time Faculty Member
Laura Seifert, part-time instructor of criminal justice, social, and political science
The Part-Time Faculty Award is given to a part-time faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding service to the students, the university, and the discipline.
Jason Beck, assistant professor of economics
The Brockmeier Faculty Award is presented to a faculty member who has been at Armstrong for not less than one year nor more than five years and is recognized as an outstanding teacher and one who has made significant contributions through service to the university and its students. The award is an endowment fund established by Kristina Brockmeier, the former director of Library Services, to express her lasting interest in the faculty and the students of Armstrong.
Student Government Association H. Dean Probst Award
Kathryn Craven, associate professor of biology
The SGA H. Dean Probst Award is presented to a faculty member who has been outstanding in teaching and learning, advisement, counseling, and the encouragement and support of student involvement in academic and co-curricular activities.
Student Government Association Professional Staff Service Award
Nashia Whittenburg, director of multicultural affairs
The SGA Staff Service Award recognizes an administrative, non-faculty staff member in appreciation for outstanding service to students and/or improvements to the quality of their campus experience.
Volunteer Service to the Community Award
Corine Ackerson-Jones, coordinator of recruitment and retention, College of Health Professions
The Volunteer Service to the Community Award recognizes a full-time staff member for exemplary volunteer service to the community, beyond the scope of job responsibilities.
Spirit of Armstrong
Annette Ramos, IT support specialist/Vista administrator
The Spirit of Armstrong Award recognizes a full-time, non-hourly staff member who exemplifies the Armstrong spirit through service to students, faculty, and staff.
Staff Member of the Year
Betsy Ray, office manager, Plant Operations
The Staff Member of the Year Award recognizes full-time, hourly staff members for their valuable contributions to the university.
