Gift Creates da Cruz Scholarship
(January 31, 2010) The Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation, Inc. has received a generous gift to establish the José de Arimatéia da Cruz endowed scholarship to benefit future Armstrong students seeking a degree in political science.
The endowment will provide an annual scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate student of political science at Armstrong Atlantic State University. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must have accumulated at least 70 semester earned hours and maintained a 3.0 grade point average. The student must exhibit characteristics of leadership and have completed at least one year of foreign language course work with a grade of “B” or better. Students of political science may apply for the scholarship through their department.
The scholarship was established in honor of José de Arimatéia da Cruz, associate professor of international relations and comparative politics in Armstrong’s Department of Criminal Justice, Social & Political Science. Professor da Cruz joined the faculty of Armstrong in 2003. His research interests include human rights in Latin America and Africa; international relations theory; Latin American and African foreign policy; Latin American and African national security; Latin American media and politics; North-South relations trade, debt, environmental and drug trafficking issues; women and politics in Latin America and Africa; and civil-military relations in Latin America and Africa.
Professor da Cruz holds a Ph.D. in political science with a concentration in international relations and comparative politics and a master’s in political science/political philosophy from the Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He earned his bachelor’s in philosophy from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
Further contributions and investments to the José de Arimatéia da Cruz endowed scholarship will be accepted and administered in accordance with policies and procedures set by the Board of Trustees of Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation, Inc.
