AASU’s L. Russell Watjen Recognized
(January 5, 2010) L. Russell Watjen, associate vice president for enrollment management at Armstrong Atlantic State University, has been recognized as a Diamond Honoree by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Foundation.
Through its Diamond Honoree program the ACPA Foundation annually recognizes a small group of educators who have made significant contributions of leadership and scholarship to their institutions, the ACPA and students. Watjen, one of only 16 individuals to be recognized as a 2010 Diamond Honoree, will be honored during an award ceremony at the annual ACPA convention in Boston in March 2010.
In the words of one of his nominators, "Russ is a person of integrity, talent and innovation and has a strong commitment to student development and student advocacy. He has a record of scholarly research and publications, and is a leader in student affairs professional organizations. Russ Watjen is a forward thinking individual with a history of making a difference in the lives of young professionals."
Watjen came to AASU in June 2008 with more than 35 years of administrative experience in the areas of admissions, enrollment and student services. He oversees all areas of enrollment services, including recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the registrar's office, and student success and advising.
"I congratulate Dr. Watjen on this well-deserved recognition from the American College Personnel Association Foundation," said Ellen Whitford, AASU vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty. "The award brings attention to Russ' knowledge, leadership and the many years he has devoted to serving students and higher education."
Watjen holds a Ph.D. in guidance and psychological service and a master's in student personnel services from Indiana State University. He earned a bachelor in business management from the University of Rhode Island.
