JOHN W. FRANKLIN TO SPEAK AT ARMSTRONG
Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture

Partnering with co-sponsors City of Savannah and Savannah's Black Heritage Festival, which is hosted by Savannah State University, AMT presents John W. Franklin of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture to speak at noon Monday, February 4th in Fine Arts Hall Room 206.

The director of partnerships and international programs at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Franklin specializes in history and traditions of the African Diaspora communities.

His presentation is titled The Impact of the Smithsonian Museum on History and Culture and will last just under an hour.

Franklin is a graduate of Stanford University with research specialties in cultural change in French-speaking West Africa and the Caribbean, African Diaspora studies, Cape Verde and Cape Verdian Americans, multicultural perspectives in cultural institutions, African American history and culture in United States museums.

Tom Cato, Ed. D., AMT department head, is pleased to have the opportunity to host Mr. Franklin stating “beyond the profound creative influence his words will have on Armstrong visual arts students, his message will resound with students, staff and faculty members from many academic disciplines.”
