About this event:
The Armstrong Masquers troupe presents the 2007 Tony Award Winning Rock Musical Spring Awakening, a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater.

An electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll, Spring Awakening is an 8-time Tony Award, 4-time Drama Desk Award, and Grammy Award winning musical that employs alternative rock as part of the folk-infused score.

Set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers. Haunting and provocative, Spring Awakening celebrates an unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and a passion you will never forget.

Based on the controversial same titled 1891 German play by Frank Wedekind, the original play was banned throughout history for its elicit portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, child abuse and suicide. Incorporating live music and modern choreography, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality.
